American Geisha
Concept photography. Perhaps the lettering on her face invokes possible ownership by an Emperor, or perhaps she is her own warrior.

ATTENTION PHOTOGRAPHERS It seems that in order to have your photo entered into the 'Beauty' contest, you must switch the category to 'Abstract'. I voted this up to post it as an announcement since I was curious why some of the other talented photographers didn't have their shots in this contest, and the vote box on all my beauty category shots didn't allow voting. I imagine when the admin notices the error, it will be fixed and all votes would naturally return to zero, but who knows. Ok everyone, happy voting. Cheers, -Matt

A beautiful picture, but three really big things bother me about it.1. The characters on her face don't make any sense in Chinese or Japanese. Most of the characters don't exist in modern or ancient Chinese2. Don't know if it's on purpose or if it's a trick of the light, but the eye liner is really, really dark on her right eye, but not her left.3. Historical inaccuracy No self-respecting person of Chinese or Japanese culture would ever tattoo their own face. The only people that had tattoos on their faces were convicted murderers and prisoners that committed other heinous crimes. Emperors would never tattoo their concubines, wives, servants, etc.

Sorry for the double post. I thought the website would at least separate the lines when I hit enter. Every number on my last post was supposed to be a new line. Website seems to have also taken out hyphens, colons, semicolons, and parentheses.

Umm, I really wasnt taking it that seriously. The characters on her face aren't supposed to be tattoos, just makeup for an occasion or something. I just thought it made a cool image, it's not suposed to have historical value or anything. Ever see The Matrix? Cool imagery but no one would really ever wear a two-thousand dollar leather suit to fight in, but it was still visually appealing. I'm not a photojournalist, I just like to create images that I think look cool. She's American so she doesn't have to read the letters anyway. Cheers- M
